My cameras and lenses
My Sony Photography Kit:
As a professional photographer, having the right gear isn’t just a luxury—it’s a necessity. Over the years, I’ve fine-tuned my kit to suit my style, workflow, and the diverse range of subjects I shoot. For me, Sony has consistently delivered the perfect balance of performance, speed, and reliability. Here's a look inside my current setup and why each piece earns its place in my bag.
Camera Bodies
Sony A1 – The Flagship Powerhouse
The Sony A1 is a beast. With its 50.1MP sensor, 30 fps continuous shooting, and 8K video, this camera handles everything I throw at it. Whether I’m capturing intricate details in a high-end commercial shoot or freezing the action in a fast-paced sports event, the A1 never misses a beat. The image quality is stunning, and the dynamic range gives me incredible flexibility in post.
Sony A9 II – Speed and Reliability
The A9 II remains one of my go-to bodies for event and action photography. Its blackout-free 20 fps shooting and rock-solid autofocus make it a dream for capturing fleeting moments. It may not have the resolution of the A1, but when speed and reliability are critical, the A9 II delivers consistently.
Sony A9 III – The Global Shutter Revolution
Enter the A9 III. With the world's first full-frame global shutter sensor, this camera represents a real game-changer. Zero distortion, zero blackout, and seamless shooting at 120 fps opens up creative possibilities that just weren’t possible before. For high-speed sports, wildlife, or anything requiring precision timing, the A9 III is simply in a league of its own.
Lenses
Sony 24-70mm f/2.8 GM
If I had to pick one lens to take on an unknown shoot, it would be the 24-70mm. It’s sharp, fast, and versatile—ideal for everything from portraits and weddings to travel and documentary work. The GM series optics deliver superb detail and colour rendering.
Sony 16-35mm f/2.8 GM
For wide-angle landscapes, architecture, or creative storytelling, the 16-35mm is a stunner. It’s wide without distortion and sharp corner-to-corner. I use it often for environmental portraits or sweeping cityscapes.
Sony 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS II
This telephoto workhorse is essential for sports, events, and even portraiture. The autofocus is blazing fast, and the image stabilization helps nail sharp shots even in lower light. It pairs perfectly with all three of my camera bodies.
Sony 135mm f/1.8 GM
One of the sharpest lenses I’ve ever used. The 135mm is a dream for portraits—creamy bokeh, perfect subject separation, and unreal detail. It also doubles nicely for stage or low-light candid work, especially on the A9 II or A9 III.
Sony 50mm f/1.2 GM
The classic 50mm, reimagined. With an ultra-wide aperture and razor-sharp rendering, this lens is magic for intimate portraits, lifestyle sessions, and low-light shoots. It’s also my everyday walk-around lens when I want something lightweight but uncompromising in quality.
Sony 400mm f/2.8 GM OSS
This is the crown jewel of my sports and wildlife kit. The 400mm f/2.8 delivers stunning reach, shallow depth of field, and incredible sharpness. On the A9 III, it becomes a high-speed machine for tracking fast-moving subjects with absolute precision.
What keeps me loyal to Sony is not just the cutting-edge specs, but the way all the components work together seamlessly. The speed of the autofocus, the intuitive ergonomics, and the consistent colour science make my workflow smoother and my results more predictable.
Each piece in my Sony setup has its role, and together, they form a complete system that adapts to any situation I face in the field
Whether you're just starting out or you're a seasoned pro looking to expand your kit, I can’t recommend the Sony system enough. From the compact primes to the flagship bodies.
